Skills For Success

Program Overview

To provide targeted, practical skills training to underserved individuals in the St. Louis community, enabling them to gain meaningful employment, pursue further education, or launch entrepreneurial ventures, thereby fostering self-sufficiency and breaking cycles of disadvantage. This initiative emphasizes hands-on learning and direct application of skills

Target Audience

  •  Primary: Unemployed or underemployed adults, young adults seeking vocational pathways, and individuals looking to upskill for better job opportunities in the St. Louis area.
  • Secondary (Internal Capacity Building): ATOD Development Corporation staff and volunteers, to strengthen their capacity in program delivery, mentorship, and community engagement

Skills Training Themes

 A. Core Employability & Digital Skills (Primary Focus)

These modules are foundational for almost any career path and will be offered consistently.

B. Vocational & Specialized Skills (Rotating Focus)

These modules will rotate quarterly based on community demand, local job market analysis, and available resources.

C. Internal Capacity Building Workshops (1-2 times per year)

These workshops strengthen ATOD's internal capabilities to run effective programs.

Delivery Method

A blended learning approach will optimize engagement and accessibility:

  • In-person Classes: Held at ATOD Development Corporation's facilities or accessible community centers with computer labs or space for practical activities. These provide direct instruction, hands-on practice, and immediate feedback.
  • Virtual Components: Supplementary online modules, video tutorials, and live Q&A sessions via platforms like Zoom for flexibility and remote access.
  • Open Lab Hours: Dedicated times for participants to practice computer skills or seek one-on-one help.
  • Guest Speakers/Industry Experts: Bringing in local professionals to share insights and networking opportunities.

Program Evaluation

Robust evaluation will ensure the program's effectiveness and allow for continuous improvement.

  • Pre/Post Skill Assessments: Measure direct skill acquisition (e.g., typing speed, software proficiency tests, soft skills self-assessments).
  • Participant Surveys: Gather feedback on satisfaction, perceived usefulness, and suggestions for improvement.
  • Attendance & Completion Rates: Track engagement and persistence.
  • Employment Outcomes: Follow up with participants post-program to track job placement, promotions, and wage increases.
  • Success Stories: Document compelling narratives of individuals transformed by the program.
  • Employer Feedback: Gather input from local businesses on the readiness of program graduates.
